Michaël Fischer

Michaël (pronounced “Mickell”), a partner at the firm, was born in Europe and holds U.S., Swiss, and French citizenships. He graduated summa cum laude from California State University at Northridge and earned his law degree from the University of Southern California where he was an editor for the law journal.

Before joining McKasson & Klein, Michaël worked at the global law firm of Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP.

Michaël has broad experience representing domestic and international companies, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations in a wide variety of settings including transactions, mediation, arbitration, and trial.

Michaël handles an array of matters related to maritime law, educational law, employment law, and general business law.

On the maritime side, Michaël represents such clients as vessel and cargo interests, freight-forwarders, charter parties and protection & indemnity clubs. Representative matters include negotiation and preparation of shipping agreements, vessel arrests and attachments, vessel reflaggings, maritime liens, marina disputes, cargo litigation, and freight-forwarding matters.

Michaël’s educational law practice focuses on the representation of private primary and secondary schools, often faith-based, in most all transactional and litigation matters that arise in such settings. Representative issues include employment policies and disputes, student discipline, vendor and contractor matters, Constitutional questions, school financing, and governmental compliance issues.

In his employment law practice, Michaël represents both service and manufacturing-industry businesses. Through the implementation of proactive policies, Michaël counsels companies away from costly employment claims and litigation. When litigation is unavoidable, however, he takes an aggressive approach utilizing years of experience in mediation, arbitration and trial.

Michaël also teaches legal courses at the University of California, Irvine, focusing on Tort Law and Civil Litigation. Further, he has authored a number of published articles and serves as a frequent speaker on issues of admiralty, education, and employment law.

Michaël’s charitable efforts have been recognized with commendations by the State of California as well as the City of Los Angeles.
